Root Cause Analysis

31 January, 2016

Unfortunately, in real-world operations, all conditions rarely will be satisfied and mechanical service life will be threatened regularly by the effects of abrasive wear, corrosion, electrical erosion, fractures or a combination of these or other factors. When bearings and other mechanical items sustain damage and must be replaced, profit loss follows due to equipment downtime and lost productivity. Unless the root cause of failure can be detected, history may repeat itself with more of the same after a new bearing is installed and the rotating machinery resumes operation.

When bearings and other mechanical items sustain damage and must be replaced, profit loss follows due to equipment downtime and lost productivity. Unless the root cause of failure can be detected, history may repeat itself with more of the same after a new bearing is installed and the rotating machinery resumes operation.

In determining root cause, practical lessons can be learned by inspecting and analysing bearing, seals and mechanical components, which can be read like a “crime scene.” Tell-tale signs are often apparent. Root cause analysis affords practical insights into the causes of premature failure and the condition of the rotating machinery.

Once we know accurately the root causes, we can provide the most suitable products or even engineer a solution to your individual needs as part of a corrective action plan.
