Belt Scrapers for Conveyors
Author - Tony Voiklis Power Transmission Product Specialist

Ensuring conveyor belts are scraped clean of product can be important to not only increase productivity but also to prolong belt life.
There are varying options of conveyor belt scrapers available to the Australian market today (rubber, spring, hydraulic, pneumatic). The wide variety of designs offer different advantages and disadvantage, some disadvantages include:
- Ongoing requirement to retention
- Being effected by contamination or product build up i.e. ratchet types
- Expensive to purchase or high cost/difficulty to mount to the conveyor
CBC’s Rosta belt scrapers utilise our standard range of SE Rosta tensioner arms (See Figure 3) to apply ongoing preloading of the scraping element against the conveyor belt. These CBC belt scrapers are inexpensive, easy to mount and require little ongoing maintenance.
The Rosta rubber suspension element combines the function of a spring, a tensioner, a damper and a bearing (see diagram Figure 1). The Rosta rubber has a memory, this means the tensioned lever will return back into its original position every time (unlike spring tensioners as they will remain in the tensioned position even after removal). This makes the Rosta rubber tensioner very effective in ensuring the conveyor belt is scraped clean.

CBC supply our customers prefabricated “bolt on” conveyor belt scrapers of the Rosta based design shown in figure 5 in belt widths 450, 600, 750 and 900mm under part numbers
- Beltscraper 450
- Beltscraper 600
- Beltscraper 750
- Beltscraper 900
Standard scraper element material is polyurethane.
Alternatively our customers have the option to fabricate the belt scraper in their own workshop from CBC supplied components consisting of Rosta tensioner arms, WS brackets, fabrication guidance procedures and a strip of rubber belting (polyurethane, plastic or metal to suit your conveying application and environment). Please note that CBC can supply metal components and Rosta tensioner arms in stainless (304) for food grade or highly corrosive environments.
For fabrication of the Rosta Belt Scrapers using the SE tensioners in your own workshop, just measure your conveyor belt width and follow the below instructions, see Figure 5.
